Cross Timbers District Friends of Scouting Campaign

Longhorn Council’s annual budget requires about $320 of donations per registered Scout so they can operate.  We all know the benefits of the Scouting program for our youth and adults so why do some Units provide support while others provide little or not at all?  Scout registration fees and the extra fees charged by the Units don’t support the Longhorn Council.
The Friends of Scouting Campaign supports about 25% of the operating budget. To make up the remaining 75% the Council must look outside of the Scouting family to make their budget to keep the doors open.  The Council also provides an afterschool program for roughly 4,000 Tarrant County youth in 51 schools through Unit and corporate donations.
Unlike other Charitable organizations you know your donations are kept right here at home making a difference for your sons and daughters.  Keeping our camps open for your use, providing staff, other facilities, support for the Units and Charter Partners.

The District would like to recognize the following Units for attaining their 2019 Friends of Scouting goal.  It’s not too late to provide the much-needed support for your Council.  Go to, and donate.  We’ll add your Unit to next month’s newsletter!

Your small or large commitment now makes a difference for Longhorn Council Scouting.
Please go to, and donate.

Thank you for all that you do for Scouting!

Please bring your own refillable water bottle and protection from the sun; hat, sunscreen, etc.

Urgent Flag corp needed Saturday

The scouts need to be there around 12:30 to 12:45.  The event opens with the ceremony at 2:00 pm.

You will need to go through a couple of practice runs of the ceremony.

Find Henry Lewczyk of the chamber to discuss how he wants the ceremony to be delivered.

You will need to bring your own flag(s) to deliver the ceremony.  The ones on stage are to stay on the stage.

Be sure that all non-American flags are lowered during the pledge.

There will not be a microphone for the lead scout to deliver the ceremony.  Therefore, he/she will need to be very loud.

I wished I could be there to help, but I am taking my troop on an outing that day.

Join our Dinosaur Safari

Coming this summer to a Jurassic Camp near you...

Dinosaur Safari!

Tell us who your unit liaison is.

We need to know who to contact in your unit to make sure that information flows smoothly in both directions.  The role of a Unit Liaison is to distribute information to the unit, and to help us by ensuring that forms are collected correctly and on-time.

Sometimes, the unit liaison is a member of the Key 3, but not always.  The best Unit Liaisons are excited about camp, and can convey that excitement to the youth.

We need a liaison for every unit that will be in-camp, including packs, troops, and crews.  Please reach out to us at or the unit page on our website.

We heard you!

The daycamp committee heard your feedback, and registration will be opening much earlier this year.  In fact, registration should open TODAY.  When it does, we will post a link to the registration form and instructions on the registration page of our website.

Liaisons and Key 3, we need your help...

On January 28, 2019 at 7pm, the Cross Timbers Twilight Camp Committee will be meeting at Trinity UMC in room 205 to prepare the registration packets and marketing information for this upcoming year.  We would love for you to participate in this process and to provide feedback.

We would also like to extend an open invitation to unit representatives to meet with us over the next few months.  Let us know at if you would like to receive meeting invites.

I'm in a Troop/Crew.  Is this for me?

Every safari needs safari guides... and Twilight Camp is an exciting way for older scouts to get service hours and develop leadership skills.

Any scout or venture-aged youth is eligible to be a Councilor-in-Training, and registered youth over the age of 14 are permitted to take on larger areas of responsibility.  We need older scouts to be instructors and to help with dens and to assist in program areas.  Some areas of responsibility include: assistant den leaders, quartermasters, fire guard, craft/sport/STEM instructors, and more.

Training and leadership experience is not required, but a can-do attitude is!

Please let us know if your unit's schedule is compatible with Twilight Camp, and whether you expect scouts to come and join us.  You can reach us at or fill out the unit liaison form here.
